What we build

A website is the part people see. We build what is behind it too.

Anyone can give you five pages. The question worth asking is what happens after someone reads them — and that is where most small business websites stop.

Underneath the page

Four layers, not one

Every site we build is made of these. The first is the only one a visitor sees.

01

The website

What your customer looks at. Fast on a phone, clear about what you do, obvious about how to get in touch. Built to be found — proper page titles, real URLs, a sitemap Google can read.

02

The assistant

The part that answers. It sits in the corner of every page and responds in plain language when somebody asks something, whatever time it is.

03

Your business, written down

The services, prices, hours, delivery areas and policies the assistant answers from. This is the real work, and it is why an assistant we build knows your business and a generic chatbot does not. When something changes, this is what gets updated.

04

What happens next

The enquiry reaching your inbox with the details already gathered. The booking request with a name, a number and a time on it. The part that turns a visit into something you can act on.

The honest version

WordPress or hand-built?

We build both, and we do not push one over the other. One question decides it.

Do you want to change your own text and prices — or would you rather send changes to us?

You want to edit it yourself

Then it is WordPress. You get a login, you change your own prices and opening hours, you add a blog post when you feel like it. The trade-off is that WordPress needs updating every month or it becomes a security problem — which is one of the things the Care Plan covers.

You would rather we handled it

Then a hand-built site. There is no software to keep patched, nothing to get hacked, and it loads faster because there is less of it. Changes come to us. For most small businesses who update a few things a year, this is the better deal.

We also work with Shopify where a business is really a shop. Backbencher, in our work, is one of those.

In every build

The things that should not need saying

It works on a phone

Checked at real phone widths, not shrunk down in a browser window and called done.

The contact form sends

And we test it by sending one. You would be surprised.

SSL and a secure address

The padlock, set up properly, included.

Readable by Google

Real page titles, descriptions, a sitemap, and pages that can rank for different searches.

Readable by people

Text that passes contrast checks, buttons big enough to hit, and it works with a keyboard.

Fast

Images compressed, nothing loaded that is not needed. Speed is a ranking factor and a politeness.
